Tara Tulley is the supervising midwife at Birth Rite Women’s Center. Tara started attending homebirths in 1998 after the birth of her first daughter. Tara comes from a long heritage of homebirth, and she is the granddaughter of a male midwife, Arnold Branham, and master herbalist, LaRae Branham. LaRae was a pioneer in the age of alternative health. She birthed 10 of her own babies at home, and Tara was born into the hands of her grandfather, Arnold, when her own mother Ange’, gave birth in the Branham homestead in Eagle River, Wisconsin.
LaRae spent most of her life educating and helping people learn how to find empowerment in their own choices. Tara believes that teaching midwives to preserve the knowledge of natural medicine combined with evidence based approaches, and educating parents is the way to bring about world peace and help women find their inner power and strength.
Birth Rite Women’s Center has a vision of training new midwives to become a part of the model that is being created to connect people to their communities and home birth is at the heart of Birth Rite’s values. Tara hopes to continue to grow the legacy that her grandmother began in the early 1950′s. The birth team and staff at Birth Rite Women’s Center are excited to serve the women of our community through offering home birth and community support for parents, midwives, doulas, educators, and other interested individuals.
Birth Rite legacy: Tara’s grandfather Arnold Branham was a male midwife in Eagle River, Wisconsin. LaRae Mills Branham was born and raised in Park City, Utah and entered the School of Natural Healing at the age of 18 years old. LaRae and Arnold built their homestead in Eagle River to include a small health food store, guest rooms, and class rooms to educate people on empowered living and natural health. LaRae was ahead of her time delivering her 10 children at home. LaRae’s knowledge and legacy inspired the philosophies and teachings we believe in at Birth Rite Women’s Center.
